This is a custom designed house on a moderately sloping east west block featuring extensive views to the east and a reserve to the west.
The brief was for a highly energy efficient family home to be constructed from concrete filled foam form blocks with roof gardens and an indoor pool. The result is a uniquely individual urban home that steps up the site over three levels that enjoys abundant natural light in a very private structured garden that retains all five of the high value trees from the original site.
Each of the three levels opens out onto ground as the building steps up the site. The first level is the entry and garage with parents retreat. The second is the main living level, poised in the canopy of the retained tree in the front yard with the eastern view shared by all rooms on this level. The living rooms and kitchen open out to the private northern courtyard featuring a second retained tree.
Indoor – outdoor living at this level is seamless with all rooms opening to the outside, sharing a covered alfresco kitchen, dining with pizza oven. This common space also opens up to the indoor pool. The top level is the sleeping level opening out to the reserve.
Three of the four bedrooms have generous northern windows. Heavy thermal mass, high levels of insulation, extremely efficient windows, integration of building systems, durable lasting materials and feature internal joinery and finishes combine to make this an extraordinary home uniquely designed to meet the needs of the occupants.
