Perched within the canopies at the top of Ngunnawal Land, The Nest is a beautiful interpretation of how the home, hobbies and friends can be intrinsically interwoven.
A collaborative effort between Preferred Builders, DNA Architects & The Oliver’s, who entrusted us to create a functional home which catered for their semi-retired lifestyle.
Capturing the uninterrupted views from the entry to the home was unmistakably on purpose. What was clear from the first site meeting was that the view had to be integrated into the design of the home. As fate would have it, the perfect level for the new home was eerily similar to that of the home which once stood upon the land.
Having worked with the Oliver’s on their previous home and experiencing firsthand how they lived & entertained gave us great insight into how the spaces could be arranged. With this in mind, the heart of the home is undoubtedly the soaring 5.5m high dining space which opens out to both the central atrium and the Canberra skyline to the north.
With numerous outdoor entertaining spaces from the rooftop terrace, the internal atrium & the main terrace we made sure there was still enough opportunity for those private more cosy moments around the home, whether its pottering in the veggie patch or toasting marshmallow over in the fire pit.
The home is filled with beautiful moments like this as you meander through the spaces. Each one creating a new memory of an occasion, a sound or the way the light filters through.
Each element has been thoughtfully crafted, leaving no trace of how it was assembled. The variety of textures and light bring the spaces to life at different times each day allowing the Oliver’s to use the home as their canvas to showcase their life.
