The Menzies

The Menzies in Curtin is a considered reinterpretation of Canberra’s late-1960s architectural character – a time when mid-century modernism shaped the capital’s suburban identity. Located in the heart of Woden Valley, this boutique development of eight townhomes draws inspiration from the light-toned brick apartment blocks synonymous with the era, while delivering a contemporary, highly resolved living environment.

Set behind mature gum trees along the verge, the development presents as a calm and cohesive streetscape response. A restrained, monotone palette utilises colour flooding principles to celebrate texture, shadow and articulation rather than contrast. Feature blonde brickwork, chain mesh screening, exposed steel elements and finely detailed entry awnings create a layered façade that shifts with light throughout the day.

Each four-bedroom residence has been designed with flexibility in mind, offering a master suite either upstairs or downstairs, with a guest suite that doubles as a second master through a cleverly configured two-way bathroom. Open-plan living areas flow seamlessly to both a private front courtyard and a central atrium court, ensuring abundant natural light and cross ventilation. Upstairs, a raked ceiling to the rumpus captures morning sun from the east, while the front courtyards frame curated sunset views.
