Macy Coombs

Macy is a new 71 unit townhouse development at the gateway of Coombs. The development is located on an island site that is bordered by Cotter Road, Harold White Ave, Woodberry Ave and Cornelius St. Being a gateway site, the brief was to create a strong and attractive building form to give the development presence from Cotter Road and John Gorton Drive. There was also a strong focus on providing some innovative floor plan types.

The collaborative effort from the design and construction teams lead to a very well executed development. The design cleverly utilises the fall of the land to get majority of the car parking under the buildings which allows the site to have a large open space in the centre for residents. Majority of the units over the common basement have their own internal access into their townhouse which is quite an innovative outcome for townhouses over a common basement while keeping an efficient planning grid. Half of these units also have double lock up garages within the basement.

The townhouses fronting Harold White Ave and Woodberry Ave are also an innovative floor plan type as they have stepping party walls which allows a mix of single and double garages to be achieved on a narrow grid but keep these buildings as class 1 dwellings. The efficient use of space in these units creates very usable and liveable spaces in a smaller area.

Built during the uncertainty of the Covid19 era, the construction team did an exceptional job to deliver this project in what seemed like an effortless fashion.
