Blackburn Homestead

Perched amidst the rolling hills of Yass Valley, Blackburn Homestead is a grand 1895 Italianate mansion reborn. Once the centrepiece of a vast 7,000-acre sheep station, this heritage-listed four-storey residence has undergone a meticulous restoration to preserve its historic grandeur while embracing modern functionality. Now known as Highclere Farm, the 36-room estate – complete with nine bathrooms, a tower belvedere, and elegant wrap-around verandas – has been transformed into a luxurious private hire venue for accommodation and events.

Faced with challenges such as structural decay, rising damp, and flooded subfloors, the project demanded innovative solutions and unwavering dedication. Every detail – from damp-proofed lime plaster walls to restored fireplaces, timber joinery, and handcrafted concrete nosing – honours the craftsmanship of the past while securing the homestead’s future.

Completed over four years, this restoration celebrates heritage conservation without compromise. With restored stables, formal gardens, and carefully curated interiors blending antique and contemporary elements, Blackburn Homestead now offers a timeless, immersive experience. Supported by regional artisans and driven by a vision of sustainability and cultural celebration, the project ensures this iconic mansion continues to inspire and thrive – ready to host elegant events and luxurious escapes amidst its historic charm.
